Public Services International
Public World grew out of work done by managing director Brendan Martin in the 1990s with Public Services International (PSI), which is a global union federation linking some 20 million workers worldwide.
In the early 1990s, PSI commissioned Brendan to research the causes and effects of public services privatisation globally and to act as an advisor to its Public Sector Working Group. This led to a partnership with Zed Books to publish In the Public Interest? Privatisation and Public Sector Reform.
Since then, Public World has grown and on the way produced many reports for PSI. We have also contributed to the education and capacity building work of its affiliates in many countries, and acted as advisor to PSI representatives at a series of ILO meetings.
Much of what was learned in the course of this work is contained in our Publications, many of which were produced in cooperation with PSI and its affiliates, for which we are most grateful.
